Towards the end of September, the pack here at Huskies decided to take part in the annual Inktober initiative. Inktober is a challenge that draws millions of participants from around the world. It was started by a Utah-based illustrator named Jake Parker, who began the movement in 2009 as a way to improve his inking skills and ‘develop positive drawing habits.’ You only have to type ‘#inktober’ into Instagram to discover the huge volume of participation; at present, that search yields over 3,600,000 results!
The challenge meant that for each day of October, a different Husky – be it from the artistically-challenged Search and Data teams to the da Vincis over in the Creative and Design departments – would create an original work-of-art based on one of the prompts provided by Jake Parker, below.
Needless to say, we all enjoyed seeing the imaginative interpretations our colleagues came up with, despite the numerous frustrating attempts that ended up crumpled in the bin! For those of us who work in digital and are naturally so wrapped up in the latest technologies and devices, it was a welcome therapeutic practice to sit down with a paper, pen, idea and clear head.
There were some really fantastic submissions, especially from those of us who hadn’t picked up a pen since the Leaving Cert! You can check out our video below, and let us know which is your favourite. Don’t worry, we won’t be offended :-)
